Mrs. Normann-Petersen's Weekly Newsletter

September 13, 2019

Dear Parents,

We have had another fantastic week at school!  On Monday we made a thank you card for Deputy Camacho.  When we delivered the thank you cards on Wednesday, September 11, we told Deputy Camacho thank you for  taking care of us and keeping us safe while we are at school. Deputy Camacho is our School Resource Officer.

Each month the students help fill St. John’s Food Pantry, the Samaritan House.  Please help support St. John’s Samaritan House by sending in each month’s outreach collection with your child.  This month we are collecting Macaroni and Cheese for the Samaritan House due no later than Monday, September 30.

Here are some things you can do at home this week to support your child’s learning at school:

Math: This we have begun to work on recognizing numeral one as well as writing numeral one, and counting one objects.  Over the next few weeks we will continue to spend some time working on the Number One and learning a new counting rhyme below.  I encourage you and your child to count objects around your home with your child: forks, spoons, towels, chairs, and so on.  Touch each object as the two of you count it. Ask your child to tell how many she or he counted.

The Bee Hive

Here is the beehive. (make a fist)

Where are the bees?

Hiding inside where nobody sees

Watch them come creeping out of the hive

One, two, three, four, five (release one finger at a time from the fist/hive)

…BUZZ-ZZZ (wiggle fingers)

Religion:  We are discovering that God loves and cares for everyone.  Our weekly Bible story is “The Good Shepherd Cares for His Sheep” based on Luke 15:4-7.

Science:  Today was our first science lesson, First Impressions!  We began to learn that we all respond differently to animals, but we have to help to take care of God’s creatures.  The children then drew a picture of their favorite animal. The children did great!

Social and Emotional Development:  We have been learning many new songs at school.  The following is one of the new songs that we have been working on this week at school.  Sing it with your child and have some fun doing the motions together.

I Am Special Tune, Where is Tumbkin?

I am special, I am special     (point to self)

So, so special.      (march in place)

I am special, I am special      (point to self)

There’s no one (march in place, hug self)

Just like Me!

Show and Tell:  Our Show & Tell for the week of September 16, 2019 is the Shape of a  Circle. Please remember to help your child find an item that is the Shape of a Circle.  The students and I talked about some examples of show and tell for the Shape of a Circle.  We came up with donuts, oranges, the sun, the moon, the clock
